#40Things Number 34, sing Karaoke. Done!
Karaoke-ring has always been on my to-do list. Over the years I built it up in my head. It overgrew. Nilioverdo. I’d chose the songs I would perform…. perform… I always saw it as a performance. I’d practice in the car, listen to my voice, hate it, chose another song. And this went on year after year. I planned that it would be an epic event. Like I gather friends and tell them, “Guys, leo ni ile siku nitaimba Karaoke.” And we’d show up at this exotic club somewhere fancy in the middle of nowhere, walking in with an entourage like a celebrity on his way to the stage to perform on his breakout tour.
Sasa shida ni, sina entourage, niko na mabeste wa “uko free twende Isiolo saa hii? Ata kaa mahali uko nikupitie twende”. Ama “Mùdù wa Ngai, wì kirafu ìriku tonight?”
So, this was one of those days.
“Mwaaaaams! Uko?” That’s Nick Ladu on a random Wednesday evening.
“Niko home!”
“Haya tunatoka Nairobi tuko njiani tunacome. Tupatane ile base ya nyama”
And base of nyama we patanad. Kidogo, kidogo, “Kuna mahali tunaweza enda one drink them twende home?”
One drink became 17….
Enter Karaoke…. I didn’t even realise it. I just had so so much fun. Ilijileta tu. It was such a good day. And that’s how I got to tick off a number on my list. Just like that.
Cheers, to the 40s
